Chapter 1: A Shift in Perspective

After a long hiatus from publishing on Medium, the last article I shared was on April 10, and prior to that, my writing had stalled since January. It's evident that I’ve strayed from my writing routine.

I've come to realize that my enthusiasm for Medium has waned. In the past, it was a vibrant community filled with diverse, personal narratives from writers brave enough to share their struggles and insights.

Medium has frequently altered its policies and algorithms, and for years, I adapted without issue. However, in my final year of writing, I began to notice a troubling trend: my writing was evolving in ways that felt incompatible with Medium's changing landscape. The articles suggested to me were often subpar, lacking substance and relevance. I was even presented with haikus about dust—yes, that really happened.

As the quality of content diminished, I found myself writing without engaging with the work of others, which is a slippery slope for any writer. This isolation led me down a path where I was only revisiting my own pieces, a situation that stifles growth and creativity.

I genuinely wish to rekindle my fondness for Medium. I feel a strong urge to explore new subjects, such as self-improvement and other ideas that inspire me.

Nevertheless, I sense that Medium and I might not be on the best of terms, and my lack of motivation to reclaim my place on the platform is telling.

One encouraging thought is that I’m not alone in feeling this way; many talented writers have departed from Medium in recent years, citing similar frustrations.

Instead of merely lamenting the situation, I’m looking for a new direction. What comes next for me?

In the early days of my Medium journey, I spent countless hours reading articles and connecting with writers I admired, without the immediate urge to contribute my own work.

However, as I absorbed more content, inspiration struck, and I thought, “I could create something too.”

I’m eager to embark on that journey once more. It begins with discovering fresh writers and publications to engage with (please send your recommendations!). I hope to encounter insightful authors who will spark my creativity and allow me to refine my writing skills in the process.
