What If You're Not Truly Sad, Just Lacking Gratitude?

Chapter 1: The Illusion of Misfortune
Many of us often find ourselves believing we are the most unfortunate people on the planet. We tend to think that life has dealt us an unfair hand, burdening us with all conceivable problems. However, isn’t this mindset somewhat embarrassing?
While one child laments not receiving the bike he desired, another is merely wishing for a meal to sustain him for the day. Such comparisons serve as a stark reminder of our privilege. Despite having so much, we often wake up seeking countless reasons to grumble about our lives, proclaiming, "Nothing positive is happening for me."
Yet, upon closer inspection, we might discover just how much we truly possess. I’m not suggesting that wealth or a stable background negates the right to feel sad. Each individual has their struggles—be it a heartbreak, a missed opportunity, or even something as trivial as an unexpected blemish.
Does this realization bring you guilt? If it doesn’t now, it might one day—just as it did for me.
During my journey, I faced a rare syndrome that left me paralyzed and shattered. Prior to this ordeal, I was merely chasing fleeting pleasures, squandering my parents' resources, and sharing my woes on social media, acting as though my sorrow was unparalleled.
However, the two years spent in paralysis became a transformative experience for me. I had to relearn fundamental tasks—how to brush my teeth, rise from bed, walk with assistance, and climb stairs. These challenges served as my reality check. Watching others walk by during physiotherapy, I often thought, "Being able to walk on your own is an incredible gift."
Have you ever paused mid-stride and expressed gratitude for your limbs? Have you reflected on your ability to enjoy three meals a day? I imagine you haven't.

Upon regaining my physical health, I questioned my right to harbor resentment towards life. Who could I blame? Shouldn’t I be thankful for my restored health and body?
Now, I endeavor to minimize my complaints about life. While there are moments when emotions overwhelm me, I am constantly reminded of my immense fortune.
God bless you all.
