Chapter 1: A New Beginning

Greetings! It's time for me to share my experiences regarding my initial month on Medium.

I embarked on my Medium journey on November 26, 2023. While my results haven't been as impressive as others, I remain optimistic as a Hong Kong writer.

As a non-native English speaker, I recognize that I may face some challenges compared to those who are fluent. However, I view this as an opportunity to improve my language skills, express my thoughts, and share valuable insights. For just $5 a month, this platform offers me great potential.

Here’s a quick look at my December 2023 statistics:

In my first month, I managed to publish 13 articles, attracting 140 followers. My work garnered 117 views and 53 reads, earning me a total of $2.64.

Chapter 2: Observations on Growth

Throughout the month, I gained 140 followers. While I understand that some writers see their follower count surge into the hundreds or thousands, I am content with my progress. I am determined to enhance my content, as I believe others may be putting in efforts that I do not see.

During this period, I focused primarily on topics related to self-improvement and self-development. Although I initially wrote 16 articles, I decided to remove three that were in traditional Chinese, as they did not align with Medium’s primarily English-speaking audience.

Section 2.1: Performance Metrics

In December, my articles received 117 views and 53 reads. I consider this a positive outcome, far exceeding my expectations. Each view and read motivates me further, and I am thankful to everyone who engaged with my content.

Section 2.2: Earnings Insight

In this month alone, I earned $2.64. This small sum represents a significant step towards diversifying my income. Previously, nearly all my earnings came from my salary and bank interest. Achieving this initial income is a milestone, and I’m excited about the possibilities ahead. I know that starting from nothing and gradually earning can be tough, but it sets a foundation for future success.
