Chapter 1: A Curated Journey Through Nostalgia
Greetings to all readers and supporters of Medium! I'm excited to share my 159th collection of stories, crafted for those who seek diverse topics. While our editorial team, led by Aiden, tirelessly works on new submissions and drafts, I’ve taken a moment to highlight some hidden gems that deserve more attention.
Our diligent editor Aiden has already curated 176 collections. He discovered an efficient method to gather all his compilations in one place, and I aim to do the same for easy access and sharing.
Aiden's insightful narrative about receiving his initial tip for these collections caught my interest. He recently welcomed Douglas Kwon, a talented writer and our new editor, who brings a wealth of experience to the table. You can learn more about them through Aiden's introduction.
In my latest piece, I discuss Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a condition affecting the beloved Celine Dion, one of my favorite artists. I sincerely hope she benefits from the recent FDA-approved clinical study.
Additionally, I’ve penned an article on the alarming factors contributing to 2.7 million deaths annually in Europe. This marks a significant moment as Dr. Mehmet Yildiz presents a collection of impactful, unboosted stories that we've collectively refined over 300 hours. It's a must-read!
I must express my frustration regarding scammers who have cloned our esteemed writer William Spivey. They are exploiting his article, which was chosen for Staff Picks. Please check out his remarkable piece about "Freedom Day."
Our community has recently welcomed a unique publication dedicated to supporting Substack writers, and I'm proud to be part of the editorial team.
Today, I launched my first Substack, posting submission guidelines for my Health and Science publication and sharing a brief story to kickstart the process. I might just be the inaugural contributor, and I eagerly await more submissions.
Our chief editor has also provided guidance for new writers on getting started with Substack. As I absorb his advice, I look forward to dedicating more time to this exciting venture.
To enhance visibility, I've begun introducing boosted stories to attract more readers, as these often struggle to gain traction. Each month, I plan to incorporate older stories into upcoming collections, celebrating the dedication of editors, nominators, and writers who have poured their hearts into these narratives.
Recently, we welcomed over 500 new writers, and I am committed to supporting them as they find their footing. Our community is one of joy and encouragement, embracing diversity at every level.
Here's an insightful perspective based on recent data and analysis by our chief editor, which I found enlightening as a budding writer.
Upon reviewing the statistics, I noticed that Medium's algorithm appears to suppress content related to cancer, including many pieces authored by PhDs. This is disheartening, and if it continues, I may reconsider my subscription.
Yesterday, I initiated a discussion on boosting stories, sharing my thoughts on how this concept has been misrepresented as a guaranteed way to build an audience. I welcome your feedback and any corrections you might have.
I've also highlighted a groundbreaking study from Japan that offers hope regarding chronic diseases now being identified through gene therapies.

Chapter 2: Updates on My Health and Science Publication
My new publication, Health and Science, is rapidly gaining traction, paralleling the success of ILLUMINATION 🌞. I shared my first newsletter today, which garnered thousands of views in May 2024. Read about the exciting developments in my inaugural newsletter.
I’ve also begun curating health and science articles from ILLUMINATION's archives, and I hope you find these pieces as heartwarming as I did. Some predate my time at Medium, which was a delightful surprise.
In my collection, I feature the top 10 stories published on Health & Science for Friends of Medium, along with writer interviews. Dr. Yildiz recently interviewed Matthew Bamberg, one of my favorite contributors, and he's also spoken with Payal Koul, Abhishek Biswas, and Øivind H. Solheim. You can access their interviews through the provided links.
As a light-hearted note, I’ll keep a running tally of the ongoing battle against digital scammers. We’re all tired of the stress caused by these deceitful tactics.
In a bid to draw more readers, our chief editor penned a bulletin showcasing his favorite stories. I encourage fellow writers to create similar self-curated collections to share with our publications.
Here's a selection of boosted stories worth exploring:
