Finding Divine Inspiration in Everyday Life and Recovery

Chapter 1: The Essence of Divine Inspiration
Inspiration surrounds us, manifesting through the people and experiences we encounter daily. According to Webster's dictionary, inspiration is described as a divine influence that enables individuals to receive and convey sacred messages. It also encompasses the ability to stimulate thoughts and emotions, influencing perspectives.
While out for a walk this morning, I was greeted by the cheerful songs of birds, which sparked memories of uplifting tunes that have inspired me, such as Travis Tritt’s “It’s a Great Day to be Alive” and the Edwin Hawkins Singers’ “Oh Happy Day!” I often listen to these songs on my Echo Dot as I write my articles, finding motivation not only in music but also in the stories shared by others about their life's journey.
I draw inspiration from everything around me—whether it's personal growth or learning to be more tolerant. Countless sources have provided me with divine inspiration, enabling me to achieve so much in my brief time on this earth. Embracing these inspirations has become a guiding principle in my life. Since embracing sobriety, I've discovered a deeper connection to spirituality.
Initially, I approached this newfound concept with skepticism, but as I engaged more deeply, I found myself yearning for the profound effects it brought. My journey led me to the works of Emmet Fox, a spiritual guide for Bill W. and the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. I have immersed myself in his writings, exploring his insights on spirituality.
From there, I discovered Ernest Holmes and his teachings on the Science of Mind. Eventually, I connected with my current Spiritual Advisor, Reverend Stephanie Sorensen, at the Life Enrichment Center in Flint, MI. This journey has taught me that divine inspiration is accessible everywhere—from people to nature, and at any moment.
One of the most significant lessons I’ve learned is that I am a spiritual entity in a universe governed by spiritual principles. Recognizing myself as an expression of the divine means understanding the profound implications of phrases like "Our Father" in The Lord’s Prayer; it highlights our interconnectedness and the inspiration that comes from that relationship.
I don't claim to know all there is about divine inspiration; there is still so much to uncover. I invite you to share your insights with me, as your presence inspires my growth and learning.
You too can experience this joy by genuinely committing to your own recovery journey. The AA Program serves as a divine source of inspiration for me and countless others. Why not embrace it?
Start each day with a simple prayer: “God, help me,” and then allow yourself to step aside and let the inspiration unfold. While it may not always be easy, the resulting peace of mind is incredibly rewarding.
To summarize, I find divine inspiration by sincerely asking for help, then making space for it to flow into my life. If I can achieve this, so can you!
Thank you, God!
