Discovering the Impact of Writing Daily for 30 Days

Written on

Chapter 1: Commitment to Daily Writing

At the end of March, I made a vow to myself to engage in daily writing throughout April.

Consistency has been a challenge for me. Since I began my online writing journey in 2016, I have accumulated over 8,000 followers on LinkedIn, primarily due to my experiences as a recovering job-interview addict. This endeavor was somewhat counterproductive, as my target audience isn't active on LinkedIn, and I often find myself out of sync with the platform's culture.

My second-largest following is on Twitter, where I have over 2,700 followers. However, this choice also feels misaligned since Twitter, like Facebook, tends to function as a platform for venting rather than personal growth. My writing focuses on self-improvement and my personal journey.

Most of my income from writing has come through freelancing. However, my goal is to earn revenue from my website, TheMiddayLatte.com, while also reaching and assisting others. This necessitated a shift in my strategy.

I aim to consistently update my website, enhance my SEO, and promote my content on platforms where my audience is active. Unfortunately, I seldom plan for success, particularly in the realm of blogging.

Section 1.1: Overcoming Self-Doubt

I often struggle to trust myself and frequently fall into the mindset that, without immediate results, there's little point in starting—a belief likely rooted in my upbringing by a narcissistic parent. To achieve any level of success, I knew I needed to establish consistency and trust in the commitments I made to myself. Thus, this challenge became my first test, and I managed to pass it.

Subsection 1.1.1: Reflections on the Journey

A reflection on daily writing journey

However, instead of feeling elated or triumphant, I mostly felt fatigued, surprised by the minimal impact my writing had on my metrics, and cautious about my next steps. I learned that the essence of consistency isn't defined by a single success, even one as significant as writing every day for 30 days.

I must continue this journey, making commitments and following through. Perhaps one day, I'll experience a sense of accomplishment or see a financial return.

Chapter 2: The Results of My Writing Challenge

In this video, I explore whether it’s possible to earn money on Medium after writing 15 articles in 30 days, sharing my insights and experiences along the way.

As a result of my daily writing, I published one article each day. Here are the outcomes:

  • Total Views: 438, reflecting nearly a threefold increase from the prior month—definitely a positive outcome.
  • New email subscribers: 1, alongside 55 new followers, marking my most significant growth.

My projected income from Medium for the month stands at approximately $1.09, consistent with my typical monthly earnings. Unfortunately, there was no dramatic breakthrough; none of my posts went viral, and no publications reached out to me, as they have on previous occasions.

On the 30th day, I sat down to compose this article. Once completed, I plan to write my weekly newsletter, indulge in some French fries, and enjoy a movie with my children.

In this enlightening video, I discuss my experience journaling for 30 days, sharing key lessons learned along the way.

Despite these observations, I discovered that I can write when necessary, rather than only when I feel inspired. I also began sharing my experiences with my husband and writing about my mother, both of which have provided a sense of catharsis.

While the change in me may not be immediately evident on this 30th day, I sense a flicker of transformation—a new understanding is emerging. By venturing into new territory, I am evolving into a new version of myself, and I am grateful for this growth.
