Navigating Life's Disruptions: Reflections on Change and Adaptation

Chapter 1: The Feeling of Disconnection
Sometimes, I feel as though I’m experiencing a disconnect between my aspirations and the drive to act on them. It's as if I'm stuck in a rut. This sensation became more pronounced since January 2020, a pivotal moment when the world underwent a transformation.
Upon returning from a trip to Florida, we learned about a virus spreading in China. Soon after, illness swept through our household. First, our child was down for a week, then his mother fell ill. Despite our attempts at hygiene, I eventually succumbed too. For nearly three weeks, all of us were out of commission. Thankfully, we avoided hospital visits, but it was undeniably the worst illness we had ever encountered. A few weeks later, the news began discussing Covid-19, leaving us to wonder if that was what had afflicted us.
As the months of 2020 progressed, we didn't conform to the widespread lockdowns. Instead, we adapted our lives to the new reality. We donned masks when necessary, but spent plenty of time outdoors, frequented open venues, and even took to the skies multiple times throughout the year. We visited Universal Studios and Disney, enjoyed the beach, and remarkably, none of us fell ill again—not even with a sniffle. This makes me ponder whether that early 2020 sickness was indeed related to the pandemic.
Now, on days like today, I wonder if I am experiencing long-term effects. I often feel fatigued, which could stem from my habit of staying up late several nights a week, often getting only a couple of hours of sleep on those days. The dogs don’t seem to grasp my need to sleep during the day, nor do the other family members who interpret my daytime rest as laziness. They don’t see the hours I spend awake while they sleep.
I often dive into projects only to be interrupted, making it challenging to regain focus. As I try to prioritize my tasks, I get bombarded with to-do lists just as others are leaving the house. I also have this nagging sensation that something isn’t quite right. Perhaps the Universe is signaling that I’m not on the right path, or maybe the mountain of tasks feels insurmountable. The weight of constant rejection and global tensions only adds to the uncertainty.
Consider the recent spike in gas prices. They surged nearly fifty cents in a single night as oil prices soared past $120 a barrel, only to drop back below $100 within days, yet gas prices barely dipped. It’s clear that oil companies will report record profits, and consumers will be left to bear the brunt of it. At times, it feels pointless to get frustrated, as changing the system seems nearly impossible.
I sense there’s a larger game afoot—perhaps the ongoing conflicts serve as a distraction while something significant unfolds elsewhere. It appears to be a move towards digital currency. With the ruble faltering, Russia might pivot towards the new Chinese digital currency introduced earlier this year, aiming to establish it as a global standard. Additionally, the Biden administration has initiated an exploration into digital currencies, and JP Morgan recently launched its own coin backed by BlackRock.
Reflecting on our past discussions about cryptocurrency, it seems like all of that was merely groundwork. We are witnessing the unfolding of significant global changes—pestilence, war, famine—three of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, heralding transformation. The old systems, where boards of directors profit at our expense, may soon be obsolete.
However, transitioning to new systems can be disorienting. The process of bidding farewell to the old ways can be draining. What if we chose to embrace this change? What if we actively decided to initiate it? While I’m uncertain about the specifics just yet, I realize it will require study, knowledge, and preparation. Understanding what lies ahead allows us to gear up for it.
Are you prepared to confront the unknown? Time may alter us, but we cannot control its passage.
