I also cherish family gatherings and casual board game nights. However, I still aspire to make progress toward my personal goals.

This is why I actively prioritize efficiency in all my endeavors. As a full-time employee juggling side projects, being efficient at work is crucial for me. Here are the four key strategies I use to stay productive while ensuring I have the time and energy for my personal pursuits.

Section 1.1: Plan the Work, Execute the Plan

You might think, "Making lists? How original!" But let me clarify: my productivity skyrocketed when I began drafting my task lists the evening before. I outline the next day's tasks in a note-taking app, breaking them into manageable steps. This way, when I start my day, I can dive right into my work without wasting mental energy on administrative decisions.

I find that my focus is sharpest first thing in the morning, and I maximize my deep work sessions during this time. Typically, I accomplish about 90% of my most significant tasks between 8 and 11 AM.

It’s natural to encounter days when your mental energy isn’t at its peak. Recognizing when you're stuck is vital to avoid wasting time. I reserve my most challenging tasks for my morning sessions, but sometimes I just don't have the capacity to tackle them.

Rather than pushing through and growing frustrated, I either switch to a less demanding task or take a break—whether that means grabbing a coffee, going for a walk, or taking a short nap. The goal is to schedule demanding tasks for when I'm most alert and to recognize when it's time to pivot.

Nothing is more exasperating than dealing with an issue you've already resolved. By documenting your insights and solutions, you can save yourself from future headaches.

Knowing when to ask for help can be challenging. While self-sufficiency is crucial in any professional field, it’s unwise to struggle indefinitely with a problem that a colleague might easily solve.

Ask yourself: "Have I genuinely put forth effort?" If your answer is yes and you've invested considerable time into trying to resolve an issue, it may be time to seek assistance. Don’t let pride hinder your progress. Although solving problems independently is a valuable learning experience, seeking guidance can provide you with insights and wisdom from others.

Applying these four techniques allows me to manage my work responsibilities effectively while still having ample time to exercise, write, engage in meaningful projects, and spend quality moments with my family.
