# Embracing Your Birthright: Overcoming Unhealthy Perceptions

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding Your Birthright

Do you find yourself undervaluing your birthright? Unhealthy expectations can lead to rejecting what should be cherished.

My instinct was to step aside when I noticed a dog approaching through the sliding doors. The thought that flashed in my mind was "dogs, dogs bite." I felt a wave of embarrassment wash over me when I realized it was a guide dog, meant to assist someone in need rather than pose a threat. This incident made me reflect on the various 'programs' in my mind that could cause me to overlook valuable opportunities due to my generalized fear based on a single event. Despite never having been bitten by a dog and growing up with them, I had unconsciously associated unfamiliar dogs with danger.

This reminded me of the joyful moments I shared with dogs, particularly our family pet who had been part of our lives even before my arrival. Those cherished experiences contributed significantly to my childhood, enriching the lives of my siblings and me. I resolved to perform a mental audit and reassess other limiting beliefs that might not be beneficial.

What limiting beliefs are you holding onto subconsciously?

This line of thought led me to consider how we often reject aspects of our lives due to unhealthy perceptions. For instance, experiences related to birth order may taint one’s view of their own birthright. Firstborns, middle children, and youngest siblings often carry stereotypes that can overshadow their inherent advantages. The negative aspects tend to be amplified, drowning out the positives.
