Earnings from Writing: A Personal Journey and Insights

Chapter 1: The Beginning of My Writing Journey
Every writer has to start somewhere, and it’s essential to recognize your progress rather than dwell on the numbers. Reflect on how far you’ve come.
Medium can be a challenging platform for newcomers. After years of hesitating to share my thoughts online, I finally took the plunge on October 21 of last year. My entry was modest but steady.
I had been aware of Medium for some time, but I was hesitant to translate my ideas and feelings into written words until then. It wasn’t until I faced significant challenges that I decided to take a chance on writing regularly.
Initially, I was unaware of the potential to earn money through consistent writing. In my first month, after crafting a few poorly written articles, I only managed to earn 20 cents. Despite the awkwardness of my early efforts, I remained optimistic that things would improve.
Reflecting on my earlier work, I realize how much I’ve evolved. My initial writing was subpar, lacking depth and clarity, and I didn't have any substantial expectations at the time. However, even a modest income felt rewarding, and I was motivated by the progress I was making.
The first video explores how to earn as a full-time author, providing insights that resonate with my journey.
Chapter 2: The Reality of Earnings
While I prefer not to discuss my earnings openly, I acknowledge that it can be a personal topic. I have seen many others share their financial successes, yet I choose to remain discreet.
That said, I can confirm that it is indeed possible to earn a decent income if you focus on growth and set clear goals. Since I began writing on Medium, I have made over $400, which is significant considering I’ve only published around 90 articles.
While this amount may not seem substantial in places like the USA or Norway, it's still a commendable achievement for me. I openly admit that I earned only 20 cents in my first month and around $100 in my best month. I didn’t exert much effort initially, simply observing the numbers and statistics.
The second video offers a practical guide on how to earn $1000 monthly through writing articles on Medium, complementing my experience.
I started with a $5 subscription and later upgraded to a $15 plan, hoping to connect with like-minded individuals who resonate with my work. Writing seriously means striving to engage both yourself and your readers.
As I continue to write daily, I hold onto my aspirations of climbing higher in this craft. I am still in the process of discovering my audience and navigating the challenges of sharing my life through my writing.
I understand that not everyone will appreciate my work, and that’s okay. I don’t write genre fiction; I share personal stories and insights. Although I wish to grow my readership, I am also learning to focus on improving my skills rather than getting caught up in metrics.
Chapter 3: The Learning Process
Even after eight months, I find myself constantly learning and evolving. It’s more important to focus on the quality of my work rather than the numbers. After publishing over 90 articles, I feel like I have a long way to go compared to others, but I remind myself that comparisons can be detrimental.
Each beginning, no matter how weak, is still a beginning. I’ve drafted many pieces and discarded several. Some days I feel inspired to write, while others I struggle to compose even a few sentences. It’s all part of the human experience.
I’ve come to realize that my dreams belong to me, and I don’t need to share them with everyone. My husband supports my writing endeavors without judgment. Not all stories resonate with every reader, and that’s perfectly acceptable.
I can’t guarantee that a higher subscription fee directly correlates with increased earnings, but I have seen a difference in my income. By investing in myself, I seek out those who inspire me and foster a supportive environment.
I will continue to cultivate relationships with individuals who uplift and motivate me, and I won’t seek validation through claps or comments. I deeply appreciate those who genuinely engage with my work.
